Lamp Ghost Story

by Barb Thompson

I want share something with you about my home. Its haunted, not in your typical way It doesn't have the cold spots or the dark objects that move just out of the corner of your eye, or the sound that go bump in the night.

My ghost likes my touch lamp. It all started back in May of 2005. My husband and myself and my two daughters move into our present home. All the bedrooms are on the second floor and mine is located at the end of the hall. Under the window sats a dresser and on top of that is the lamp. The window is in full view of the driveway. So you can see any light that might come through the curtains when you pull in the drive.

Well, this all started around the time we first moved in. I would be in my room getting dressed, leave the room and shut off the light. I would then go do what I had to do, like go to work, run to the store or whatever, then come home, pull into the drive and notice that the light was on. At first I told myself that I forgot to turn it off. But then I knew that something was amiss. I told my husband about it, but he's always gone as he drives truck. Doing the things that people do when they believe you're crazy, like rolling his eyes and shaking his head, he finally went to look at the lamp. He found nothing: no bad wiring, nothing wrong with the lamp. He told me I was basically crazy! My daughters even laughed at me. Well, I just let it go.

One night, my husband and I had come home from being out, and the phone started to ring. Of course, having teenage daughters in the house, it wasn't where it was supposed to be. We heard ringing coming from upstairs. So, we both went up to answer the phone, get ready for bed, etc. Just as soon as our feet hit the top steps, the lamp (with a three-way bulb in it) started going from the lowest light level to the highest. It just kept going up and down, then it would go off. My husband's face turned the best shade of white, mouth dropped open, eyes got big and all I could do was laugh and ask, "Now who's crazy?!"

From that day forward my husband put a regular bulb in the lamp. I really think he is a little afraid of the lamp or to believe in ghosts.
