In Malaysian or Indonesian folklore, a "Pocong" is a ghost often witnessed while being still held within its burial shroud. Some believe the ghost is trapped in the covering placed around the body after death.
Ancient beliefs of locals are that the deceased are held on the earth for 40 days; and if the shroud that is tied around the neck and feet is not loosened, the ghost will appear to family members so that their souls may be released (if they had forgetten to untie the shroud).
It is said that  Pocong ghosts are seen hopping from their graves because they are left unable to walk due to the bindings and body covering.
